Immersive Storytelling:
StoryCode is an open-source, global community for emerging and established cross-platform and immersive storytellers.
Mission
StoryCode is an open-source, global community for emerging and established cross-platform and immersive storytellers.
The evolution of StoryCode from New York based meetup to a movement was a natural outgrowth of changes in the art, business and technology surrounding storytelling. As the diverse, local community of professionals grew to over 1,000 in New York alone, it became evident that a new storytelling phenomenon was taking hold.
Beyond the ubiquitous use of of tablets, mobile phones and multiple other screens by audiences worldwide has been the emergence of new forms of immersive storytelling. At first we called it Transmedia, a term which adequately described our newfound desire as storytellers to jump outside a single medium and carry our stories from one platform to the next.
What StoryCode’s community demonstrated however, was that there are more ways to entertain, learn, and convey a story than could fit under the Transmedia umbrella. As dogged explorers in the space, we opened our doors to experimenting, creating the world’s first Story Hackathon, and facilitating a lab where the cross-pollination of storytellers and technologists proved there were still significant possibilities waiting to be discovered.
StoryCode transitioned in early 2013 into the ultimate global lab -- an open-source movement for creators and makers worldwide experimenting at the intersection of story and technology. With the launch of a Paris chapter in April, and several other global chapters in the works, the movement has begun to take shape as a new force in the evolution of fiction and non-fiction storytelling.
We invite enthusiasts and professionals alike to “to storycode” -- simply meaning, to tell a story in a new way, using the bounty of new tools at our disposal. At the core of the StoryCode movement is the willingness to make, experiment and participate in growing a broad and expansive discipline which will spawn new immersive experiences and technologies.
In addition to providing a global network of like-minded creative minds, we also provide resources in the form of guidelines, toolkits and references for chapters. If you are interested in bringing StoryCode to your city, please contact us at info@storycode.org.
